Thursdays, March 1,8, 15, 22, 29 and April 5, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Maybe your interest is a Super Hero, your own life story, or you-know-it’s-in-there-somewhere-dying to get out. Don’t worry if you think you can’t draw. Barbara will teach you how to develop characters, plot stories and offer tips on the creative process.“Bring your work!” she says, “And if you don’t have any, let’s get started!”

Barbara Slate is a cartoonist who has written, drawn and created over 300 stories—for Marvel, DC Comics, and Archie Comics. She is featured as one of the century’s most important women cartoonists in “A Century of Women Cartoonists.”

This event is made possible with public funds from the Decentralization Program of the NYS Council on the Arts, administered in Columbia County by the Columbia County Council on the Arts through the Community Arts Grants Fund.

Please note the change in location for our upcoming programs. Turn a Book Dust Jacket into a Wallet will be held at the Dutch Reformed Church Activities Building on Monday, Jan 16 at 6:30 pm. Please register in advance for this program.

Also the Family Movie Night on January 28 at 6:30 pm will be held at this same location, as will the Landscape Gardens on the Hudson on January 29 at 3 pm.

On Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 3 pm, Robert Toole with present a slide show about Hudson River Gardens. He will also be available to sign copies of his book Landscape Gardens on the Hudson, published by Black Dome Press. Please join us at the Dutch Reformed Church on Route 9H just north of Rte 23 in the CE/Activities building library room located downstairs for this free program.

Turn a Book Dust Jacket into a Wallet

Yes, that’s right you will be able to turn your favorite book cover into a wallet. How, you say? Come on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 6:30 pm and Nancy Castaldo will show us how. This activity is geared for kids ages 11-15 years old. We will meet at the old firehouse.

Card Making Workshop for Kids and Adults

On November 15 & 17th we will meet from 5-8 p.m. to learn the art of card making with local artist Patricia Powers. Patricia is opening her studio to us and teaching all who come card making, how to make gift tags, and holiday ornaments. We’ll be using die cut machines, embossing paper, stamping, paper punch outs, learning the art of paper folding and paper pop outs. If there is someone special you’d like to make a card for this season, this work shop is for you!

This activity is best suited for children over the age of 8 and adults of any age are welcome to attend. Children between the ages of 8-15 must be accompanied by an adult, we will be using some sharp equipment!
