Summer Reading Program


Registration Party!

Saturday, June 17, 2017

10:30 AM to Noon

Join us on the Front Lawn of the Library. Register for summer programs, build a snack, get creative and more!


 The Reading Club – (All Ages)

Each child who participates in the reading club will commit to reading for 15 minutes a day, 7 days a week. Or they could chose to read 21 minutes 5 days a week.
We’ll have options on how children can record their time, sign up at our Kick Off Party.

Build A Better World! (Ages 3-8)

Thursdays
June 29, July 6, 13, 20, 27, & August 3
Time 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

June 29: Build a Better YOU! Yoga for kids.

July 6: Spreading Kindness, building up happiness.

July 13: Explore structures and how to build them.

July 20: Build a better planet, reduce, reuse, recycle.

July 27: Take a Tromp through the Swamp! with singer/guitar and banjoist Tom Sieling

August 3: How can you help a family on the other side of the world? Meet Ryan Skoda of the Triple Creek Dairy and his calf. Learn how one cow can make a difference.


Battle of the Books!

The Hudson River Bank & Trust Company Foundation and the Friends of the Claverack Free Library have provided generous sponsorship of our Battle of the Books team for middle school students. Participating students will read eight pre-selected books, then participate in a game

show environment to see who knows more about their summer reads!
Check in at the library for dates.

 


Junior Engineering (Ages 9-14)

Little Free Library

Two one week programs

Week 1:
Monday, June 26 – Thursday, June 29

Week 2:
Monday, July 30 – Thursday, August 3
Time: 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM

Sign up for either week or both weeks!
Space will be limited to 20 students each week.

The popular Junior Engineering program is back and has expanded to two weeks this summer.
Students aged 9 to 14 will be mentored by local engineers, architects, contractors, and undergraduate engineering students to learn how to design and build small free libraries. These little libraries will be placed in areas of our community where it can be difficult to get to a library.

Knitting on the Lawn

Wednesdays at 6:30 PM starting July 6th

Join us to learn New Techniques or work on your own project!

We’ll be Sitting on the lawn when the weather is pleasant and moving inside when it’s rainy or hot. If you’re interested in making blankets for the Veteran’s Hospital or the Homeless, we’ve yarn for you to use!

All experience levels welcome!

Richelle Ford of Ford’s Falconry will give a live bird of prey presentation.
Meet a variety of owls & hawks and learn how they hunt, raise their young and why they are so important to our environment. For all ages.
