Artist D. Jack Solomon

The Claverack Free Library is exhibiting 10 paintings by D. Jack Solomon in the library’s Marilyn and Bob Laurie Foundation Gallery, open to the public during library browsing hours Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2 to 5 pm and Saturday from 11 to 2pm.


D. Jack Solomon received a BA in Art from San Diego State University and an MA in painting from San Francisco State University.  He also studied at El Camino College, UCLA, The Art Center in Los Angeles, and Mills College. He began teaching in 1967 at Virginia Commonwealth University as a tenured faculty member in the Department of Painting and Printmaking.  After moving to NYC in 1974 he taught at the Brooklyn Museum School of Art, SUNY Purchase, SUNY New Paltz, and Parsons School of Design. He has been a visiting artist and lecturer at numerous universities and was an artist in residence at Altos de Chavon in the Dominican Republic.  He is now retired. Mr. Solomon’s paintings have been shown widely in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States.  Grants include the National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artist grant for painting and the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant.   His work is in numerous public, corporate and private collections throughout the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia.  He is represented by Fox Gallery NYC. He lives in Hudson.
